These classes make up the backbone of our structured workplace education. These classes focus on the basics knowledge needed to work in a café or coffee shop setting.

Intro To Coffee

Half-Day Workshop

The Goal of this class is provide the barista with a working knowledge of:

  • Origin
  • Processing method
  • The unique differences between coffees

NOTE: This class is a pre-requisite for anyone wanting to take the one day workshop without more than a year of experience in specialty coffee.

barista-essentials

Barista Essentials

1-DAY WORKSHOP

Barista Essentials is a one day class in which we covers the essential skills of being a barista. This expedient class was designed to give baristas a strong foundation on which to practice these skills at their home shop. In Barista Essentials we cover:

  • Cupping and describing coffees from different regions and different processing methods
  • The basics of brewing with a pour over device
  • How the 7 main variables of brewing affect a cup of coffee
  • Espresso extraction
  • How to dial in an automatic grinder
  • How to steam milk.

This class is a mixture of lecture and hands on training.

Prerequisite: Either 1 year in Speciality Coffee or the Intro to Coffee class taught once a month

Brewing Fundamentals

1-DAY WORKSHOP

Brewing Fundamentals is a one day class in which we covers the essential skills of brewing and tasting coffee. This class was designed to build a baristas vocabulary in regards to tasting and describing coffees as well as a working knowledge of several brew devices. In Brewing Fundamentals we cover:

  • Cupping and describing coffees from different regions and different processing methods
  • The basics of brewing with a pour over device
  • How the 7 main variables of brewing affect a cup of coffee.

In this class the Barista will have exposure to at least 4 brew devices and be able to experiment with how the variables of brewing affect these devices.

This class is a mixture of lecture and with substantially more hands on training than the Barista Essentials.

espresso-fundamentals-final

Espresso Fundamentals

1-DAY WORKSHOP 

Espresso Fundamentals is a one day class in which we covers the essential skills of creating espresso based beverages.. This class was designed to give a barista the skills needed to work on an espresso machine and build good habits which can be used in practicing at their home shop. In Espresso Fundamentals we cover: 

  • Espresso extraction
  • How to dial in an automatic grinder
  • How to steam milk and pour properly textured milk
  • How to clean the machine.

In this class the barista will have more time to work with the machine and receive hands on coaching than in the Barista Essentials class, this class is recommended for Baristas with little to no experience who are looking to develop strong espresso machine skills.

This class is a mixture of lecture and with substantially more hands on training than the Barista Essentials.

Public Class List

Brew school: Once a month we will open the training lab for a free class that will focus on either at home brewing, coffee collaboration or some other aspect of coffee.

Public Cuppings: Once a month we will be offering a free cupping. This is a great chance to try some new coffees you may have wanted to try or as a chance to develop your palate as we showcase a wide variety of the many coffees we offer.
