Last year we were happy to buy this great coffee from Uganda and you all loved it! We purchased (6) 60kg bags and sold most of it at the cafe on 15th Street. After it was gone it was remembered to me as the best natural process coffee I have had in my life! It is truly exceptional with notes of cola, concord grape and more.
This year we were again pleased with booking it and eagerly awaiting it to roast and brew. It does not disappoint and it's story benefiting the farmers is very encouraging.
This is the first Arabica offering from the Importers Initiative and has truly been a great coffee for the farmers to sell since they are receiving assistance from the importer and the coffee quality and quantity has increased. This year we purchased 6 bags again.
The Silverback name comes from the gorilla that inhabitants the area where the coffee is grown and inspired the producers so much that they named the coffee after it.
The region in Uganda is Mbale and the district is Bulambuli in Eastern Uganda near the Kenya border, at the foot of Mt. Elgon. In 2022, Ibero built the Bulambuli Washing Station: a brand new site for washing, pulping, drying and fermenting coffees. Silverback was produced there by several cooperatives in the area whose producer members are enrolled in NKG Bloom.
Throughout the harvest season, these members delivered their coffee cherries to the washing station. The cherries were assessed to meet quality standards and weighed. Next, they were floated to remove any low-density or damaged beans from the lot, as well as sticks or leaves.
Natural-processed lots are usually brought to drying yards in Mbale, where they are overseen by professionals who are focused on achieving the best results possible.
We are sure you will love this incredible coffee and find it as amazing as we do. I recommend brewing it on Chemex or V60.
